Maxis is collaborating with East Malaysian artists to produce a festive music video, ahead of the Kaamatan and Gawai harvest festivals in Sabah and Sarawak, respectively. The videos seek to bring to life a unique interpretation of the two harvest festivals, as well as the spirit of a vibrant community.

For the Sabah Harvest Festival in Kaamatan, Sabahan duo Atmosfera released a video titled “Kaamatan” featuring the characters exploring a local village and engaging in the activities and celebrations that take place there. All this is done while singing in the local Dusun language. Backed by Floor 88 vocalist Sabahan Ayie, Maxis said the song was both celebratory and catchy, with a hook that will invite repeat listens at many get-togethers.

On the other hand, for the Gawai harvest festival in Sarawak, the Sarawakian Alena Murang, who is of Dayak-Kelabit descent, released a song titled “Sun Hat Song”. The song is sung in multiple languages including English, Iban, Bidayuh, Kelabit, and Kenyan, in which the acoustic resonates with classic rock vibes. The clip itself also sheds light on the lives of the locals, such as preparing traditional dishes and attending celebrations and festivals.

“We join the diverse communities of Rangkaian Malaysia, especially those in Sabah and Sarawak, who will celebrate Kaamatan and Gawai respectively, along with their families and loved ones. Serving Rangkaian Sabah and Rangkaian Sarawak, we are thrilled to partner with local artists in these wonderful songs about the spirit of unity,” said Tai Kam Leong, Head of Brand and Marketing at Maxis. He added that this partnership reflects the brand’s commitment to bringing communities together through collaboration so they can always be ahead.

Last month, during the Raya-Ramadan holiday season, Maxis collaborated with Persatuan OKU Sentral to work with people with disabilities, who are also musicians. As part of the “Riang Raya Maxis” Raya campaign, they produced a festive film called “Last Kopek” which tells the story of a group of disabled musicians, who still make the most of their situation by depending on each other. others. Through this campaign, Maxis sought to bring Malaysians together to unlock new possibilities through technology and lagu Raya (party songs), the brand said earlier in a press release.

Meanwhile, Darlie Malaysia also recently celebrated the spirit of East Malaysians with a mural in Kuching and the other in Kota Kinabalu. This was part of his year-long, four-part #SemangatTogether campaign and was produced in conjunction with FCB SHOUT. Titled “The Art of Semangat”, the film follows two East Malaysian artists, Artsy Daphy and Lukis Tulis, on their journey to unite the people of Sarawak and Sabah respectively through the power of art.
